Since that final buzzer beater in the NCAA Championship Game by Villanova’s Kris Jenkins, we’ve all been itching for another riveting March Madness. The time has finally come to reveal the 2016-17 NCAA Men’s Basketball season.

The full Division 1 schedule has been imported into the Master Calendar for your viewing pleasure! Comprised of 355 schools and over 5,400 games, there’s a little something for everyone. With that in mind we are going to take you through some of the most interesting weekend road trips you can take to create a memory that will last a lifetime. We’ve picked out the best five long weekends suited around NCAA games.

Again, we know you’re busy so there are a few prerequisites. For starters we weeded out any Wednesday games. Avoiding Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) is high on the list to prevent taking too much time off work. We also try to find at least three games in a weekend as to get the most out of each trip.

North Carolina: The first weekend on the schedule sends us to the tri cities of North Carolina. ArguaDuke-UNC-NC-Statebly the home of college basketball. NCAA Championships tend go through this state. November 11 marks the first day of the season and the road to the Final Four.

There are few weekends you can catch all three NC teams back to back to back. Fortunately for us it’s the first weekend of the season! Slight disclaimer, this is prior to conference play starting which means a couple positives and negatives. Positives: we get to see all three teams play and the tickets will be relatively less expensive. Negatives: the games may be blowouts.

Friday, 11/11 we start with Georgia Southern @ NC State tipping off at 7:00PM at PNC Arena. NC State won’t be ranked season start but definitely can sneak up the rankings in March. Saturday, 11/12 is where you’ll find the Cameron Crazies of Duke University. The preseason #1 ranked Blue Devils take on the Grand Canyon Antelopes (who knew they existed?) at 6:30PM. They may only be playing the Antelopes but there won’t be an atmosphere more electric even in a cupcake game. To cap it all off we go down the road to Chapel Hill for the Tarheels hosting the Chattanooga Mocs at the Dean Smith Center for a 6:00PM tip. UNC is sure to start the season in the top 10 rankings.

To recap, the big three in the Raleigh/Durham area all playing on opening weekend. If you’ve got an extra day on the front end don’t miss Duke play UNC in football on Thursday, 11/10 at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Los Angeles: UCLA has always been on our bucket list to watch college hoops. Mostly because of legendary Coach Wooden. The city of LA is always bustling with sports so we’re not even going to try to narrow down which of the following events to attend. You can tell this is an action packed sports weekend because the Staples Center hosts not one, but TWO professional games in one evening both NHL and NBA. I would not want to be on that changeover crew. See below; find your favorites and enjoy!

Indianapolis: If LA isn’t quite your style, we’ve got you covered. Come out to the Midwest. The second weekendsteph curry of the college basketball season includes Butler, the Hoosiers and Pacers! We’ve got a decision to make on the first night of the trip (Saturday, November 19) between Butler vs. Bucknell or Indiana vs. Liberty. Bucknell is notorious for busting brackets in March while Liberty will not put up a fight against the storied Hoosiers. Either game will be fun to watch.

Sunday in November is still prime NFL season. Andrew Luck and the Colts square off against the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil field. On Monday, check out THE Steph Curry’s taking on Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

NCAAM Liberty Flames @ Indiana Hoosiers 11/19/2016 7:00 PM Assembly Hall
NCAAM Bucknell Bison @ Butler Bulldogs 11/19/2016 1:00 PM Hinkle Fieldhouse
NFL Tennessee @ Indianapolis Colts 11/20/2016 1:00 PM Lucas Oil Stadium
NBA Golden State Warriors @ Indiana Pacers 11/21/2016 7:00 PM Bankers Life Fieldhouse

Kentucky: Sticking with the Midwest theme we can’t talk college hoops without the state of Kentucky. Louisville and UK hold a combined 11 national titles. Most recently by UK in 2014 and Louisville just before that in 2013. A mere 75 miles separate the two campuses which make a two day viewing party extremely easy. Come January the prime time games have begun.

Our first game of this two game road trip on Saturday, January 28 is in Lexington at the famed Rupp Arena with the Wildcats meeting the Kansas Jayhawks. Top 10 in both preseason rank and recruiting classes, these two top tier athletic programs are sure to have a close matchup. The next morning hit the road to Louisville to watch an ACC battle. The Cardinals play host to the NC State Wolfpack.

NCAAM Kansas Jayhawks @ Kentucky Wildcats 1/28/2017 6:00 PM Rupp Arena
NCAAM North Carolina State Wolfpack @ Louisville Cardinals 1/29/2017 1:00 PM KFC Yum! Center

Washington, DC: Last but certainly not least is a meet and greet with our nation’s capital. Washington DC is just outside the home of the Maryland Terrapins (College Park, MD). Early February marks our last road trip starting with the Terps facing Purdue at the Xfinity Center (Saturday, February 4). The Terps haven’t hit paydirt since 2002 but have been creeping around title town for a few years running. With a #15 recruiting class it’s possible this is their year.

Sunday back in DC get yourself a ticket to the LA Kings on ice against the Washington Capitals. The Caps have been majorly disappointing (along with every other DC team) in the playoffs year in and year out. But the regular season is no problem for stacking up the W’s. They took home the President’s Cup trophy in 2016 (most regular season wins).juan dixon

Between all the games head downtown to our personal favorite collection of bars in Adam’s Morgan. If you have time check out the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian or the National Mall.. if you’re into that sort of thing.

Monday night we go to China Town back at the Verizon Center. Lebron James & Co will be in town against John Wall and the Wiz Kids. The two teams split the series 2-2 last year despite the Cavs being the best regular season team in the East and future World Champions.

NCAAM Purdue Boilermakers @ Maryland Terrapins 2/4/2017 TBD Xfinity Center
NHL Los Angeles @ Washington Capitals 2/5/2017 12:00 PM Verizon Center
NBA Cleveland Cavaliers @ Washington Wizards 2/6/2017 7:00 PM Verizon Center

That concludes our top picks for weekend vacations! We hope you take one or more of these trips in the near future. We’ll be back with more in depth analysis of all the major sports schedules as they come about.
